Dr Qadri wants two-thirds majority to change system

BHAKKAR: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday claimed that the investigation report into the Model Town killings had held the government responsible but the review committee gave it a clean chit.

Addressing a rally at the Jamil Stadium here, Qadri said he would unite the Sunni and Shia sects and change the system if the people gave him a two-thirds majority. He introduced Nazar Abbas as his candidate for the Nov 29 by-polls in PP-48, Darya Khan. Referring to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the PAT chief said he wanted to make a Hussaini society. “Our first test is the upcoming by-election in Darya Khan on Nov 29,” he remarked.

The PP-48 is the first constituency where the PAT has fielded its candidate after deciding to participate in the electoral process again.Qadri said a war between the rich and the poor had begun in Pakistan, adding that the sacrifices made during the sit-in had given a hope to the hopeless, courage to the fearful and awareness to ignorant.

“I want to serve the poor people of Pakistan and give them a smile,” Qadri added. He criticised Adviser to the PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz for his statement, saying it was meant to sabotage the Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

“The government is supporting half of the terrorists,” he said, adding, “The killer government has no right to rule the country.”Qadri alleged the PAT workers were being slaughtered in Balochistan but the provincial government was doing nothing to stop it. The killers, he said, had been using vehicles with government number plates and escaping without hindrance. The district administration had made fool-proof security for the gathering for which 10,000 chairs had been arranged in the stadium.
