Announcement of judicial inquiry into Daska tragedy by CM a façade & mockery of justice: PAT

While commenting on the Punjab Chief Minister’s announcement of a judicial inquiry into the Daska tragedy, PAT spokesperson has termed it a faced and the worst example of double-speak and political hypocrisy. He said that on the one hand, the Punjab government refused to accept the report of Judicial Commission on the Model Town tragedy and has been sitting on it for many months and its lawyers maintain a studied silence on the legal position of the Commission, on the other hand, the façade of investigation into Daska tragedy through judicial commission is staged to throw dust in the eyes of people.

The spokesperson asked the Chief Minister to explain as to why he goes through the motion of establishing judicial commissions when he does not have to accept its report. He said that the Punjab government has turned the justice system and due process of law into a joke due to its bad governance, double standards and non-serious attitude.

The spokesperson also lambasted Rana Sanaullah for downplaying the severity of the Daska tragedy as the consequence of heated exchange and misunderstanding between lawyers and police officials. He said that it was this attitude of the Punjab ruling elite which was responsible for the heart-rending Model Town tragedy as they described the incident as an outcome of administrative lapse. He said that the incidents of killings which have regularly been taking place for quite some time now reflect a particular mindset of the Punjab police. He said that a large number of people with criminal background were inducted into the political police force who have a knack of killing innocent people to please their political bosses.
